One of the most exciting games to come along in a while in the world of poker is Texas Hold Em. This is usually played as a tournament game that can take 10 people at the table with a deck of 52 cards. It is a variation of 7 card stud that is made for tournaments. The variation is that five of the cards in the game are placed in the center of the table and you can choose any three to make up your hand, as can your companions. You get two cards dealt to you face down in the beginning. These are called your pocket cards. No one sees them but you. It is then up to you to observe the cards being turned over one by one and then judge whether or not you have a good hand. A hand consists of five cards. You can choose any of the three in the middle as part of your hand, but your hand must also consist of your pocket cards. Everyone else can use the same cards in the middle.

The pre-flop is when you have been dealt your pocket cards for Texas Hold Em. By taking a look at your pocket cards, you can see if you are off to a good start or not. You should not drop out of the game until the flop cards are turned over. Poker is a game of luck, but also a game of skill. You have to know when to go in and when to go out.

The flop is when the first three cards have been turned over. Betting commences at this point. When playing poker, you should not consider betting on a bad hand and should drop out if you do not have a pair based on the pocket cards and the flop. Texas Hold Em is a tricky game because you do not know what is going to happen when the other two cards, the turn and the river, are turned over. If you want to play conservative Texas Hold Em, however, drop if you do not have a pair by flop cards.

The turn is the fourth card turned over. This is when betting often gets serious and people start to drop out of the poker game. If you feel you have a good hand, stay in. If you have a pair and hope for a better hand, you can call bets. Calling bets means to just see them and not raise. If you have a good hand and feel you have a winner in your Texas Hold Em hand, you should start to raise the bets at this point. You do not want to raise sooner because you will scare away others. You always want to keep others in the game so that the pot gets bigger, especially if you have a good hand. Observe how others call or raise your bets at this point as someone may have a better hand than you or try to bluff you out of the game.

By the time you reach the river, which is the fifth card turned over the middle, everyone knows what they have in their hand. It is up to you to continue betting, calling or dropping. Some players are born to bluff, which is perfectly legal in poker, and you may end up getting scarred and tempted to drop out. If you have a good hand, which is trips or better, stay in and see their bets. Be observant to the table and try to ascertain what they may have.

At the end of the river, the betting continues until someone calls the bets. At this time, the Texas Hold Em player who was raising from the beginning has to show their hand. Other must then follow suit if they are still in the game.

It is best to play conservatively when you are playing Texas Hold Em or any other type of poker game. Know when to drop if you think you are beat, but do not let someone bluff you out if you have a good hand.
